Creative Commons – Researcher License Explainer Animation

We recently partnered once again with Reeves Branding to produce a 2D explainer animation for ‘Creative Commons” that highlights how researchers can use Creative Commons licences to share their work and contribute to global knowledge. Our brief was to develop a visually engaging animation using only open-source imagery and Creative Commons-approved assets, aligning fully with the organisation’s ethos of openness and accessibility. The film uses Creative Commons’ distinctive branding and iconography to take viewers on a journey through the research process, from creation and collaboration to licensing and global impact. Each scene brings the principles of sharing and attribution to life, using clever transitions, layered motion graphics, and a warm, educational tone. The result is a concise, accessible explainer that demystifies licensing for researchers and reinforces the value of open access in science and academia.

At the heart of this project was a desire to reflect what Tunstall’s work is really about. Not the technology itself, but the people who rely on it every day.  The families around them. And that quiet reassurance that someone is there when it matters most Working closely with the team, we developed the initial idea through to script and final creative, shaping a film built around small, everyday moments. Subtle, observational snapshots of life that feel natural and authentic. The intention was to show how the technology supports independence without ever getting in the way. Present, but never intrusive. Reassuring, but never overstated.
